Now is an exciting time for all with Allegro pleased to announce local Brenda Spilva as the director for a very interesting production featuring Monologues and Duologues from regional local Script/Play Writer Marg Hickey.
Brenda is in no way a ‘newcomer’ to Allegro, blitzing her wonderful role last year as ‘Bridie Cartwright’ in the highly valued production ‘The Show Horn Sonata’ and is currently in rehearsals with Wang Players ‘Ladies in Black’.
Would you believe, Brenda had her first experiences with Allegro Theatre Company as a 14-year-old in the 1995 musical ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ and as a cue girl in ‘The Phantom of the Music Hall ’in 1997!
Her love of drama and performing continued throughout her schooling, landing roles in shows such as ‘Get Smart’, ‘Godspell’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and others.
Brenda has offered to take on the directorial challenge and feels she has found an ideal collection of monologues and duologues, by script writer Marg Hickey.
Marg Hickey, is an award winning author and playwright from nearby Beechworth, earning a PHD in ‘Creative Writing’ and is deeply interested in rural lives and communities, plus is the Author of Cutters End, Rural Dreams, Stone Town.
The brilliantly scripted stories will invoke thought, consideration, laughter, tears and reflection. Hickey’s ability to allow the audience to delve into each character’s life in critical moments on page, will now be turned into moments of life captures on stage sharing stories of family, love, grief, relationships, truth and the law.
“The characters depicted in this series are compelling and will be a wonderful challenge for any actor to take on and truly make their own,” Brenda said.
“I encourage locals to come along and learn more about these fascinating stories and consider audition for one or more roles.”
Allegro will be hosting two information sessions, one virtually via Allegro’s Facebook page on July 4 at 7.30pm and another session in person at the Girl Guide Hall, in McNally Street at 10am on Sunday July 9.
The committee are seeking male and female actors aged 17+ interested in learning more about these intriguing roles before auditions in late July. If you are interested in roles backstage, crew, set design, technical or otherwise the crew invite you to attend also.
