Mr Drum succeeded the retiring Liberal member, Sharman Stone, at the 2016 election by winning the seat then known as Murray for the Nationals.
In May 2019 he retained the re-named seat, to become the first Member for Nicholls.
Speaking at one of the final commitments of his political career, the opening of the Maude St Revitalisation in Shepparton, Mr Drum said it had been an honour to represent the region in federal parliament.
“It’s been an absolute honour to do the job,” he said.
“The job is incredibly taxing and the job sort of, never ends and nor should it.
“There’s a demand on your time that’s 24 hours a day, seven days a week and effectively that’s how it should be.
“You’re a bit like a farmer and you’re a bit like a housewife. There’s always more that needs to be done.”
Although his responsibilities as Member for Nicholls have ended, Mr Drum is yet to reveal any career plans for the future, instead committing himself only to helping Nationals candidate Sam Birrell win the seat.
“I deliberately have not moved into planning,” Mr Drum said.
“The only thing I’ve said I want to do is see more of my kids so I’m looking forward to doing that and I’ll just leave everything else until hopefully we can get Sam Birrell elected.
“That’s where 100 per cent of my efforts will go once we move into the official election process.”
