A new hydration station has been installed at Tongala Recreation Reserve, marking the fifth such installation in Campaspe Shire's recreation reserves.
This addition is part of the expanding Choose Tap program, a partnership between GVW and Campaspe Shire Council.
Dr Steve Capewell, managing director of GVW, stressed the critical need for accessible drinking water at high-traffic areas to promote proper hydration.
“Our Choose Tap program aims to increase awareness of the health, environmental and financial benefits of drinking tap water,” he said.
“There are now almost 80 hydration stations spread through the region, at sporting venues, in parks, major thoroughfares and at tourist attractions.”
Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell, highlighted the community benefits.
“This hydration station will serve our local football, netball, tennis and cricket clubs as well as the wider community enjoying these recreational areas, offering an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to bottled water,” he said.
The installation at Tongala Recreation Reserve joins similar facilities in Rushworth, Girgarre, and two sites in Kyabram.
This latest addition brings the tally to eight water refill stations distributed across five towns in the shire, a result of the five-year effort.
