The companies have welcomed 37 new apprentices and trainees, six of them women, to the apprenticeship program.
The new faces come from diverse backgrounds and include school-leavers, glassblowers, carpenters, electricians and circus performers.
The successful applicants come from all over Victoria, including Shepparton, Echuca, Bendigo, Kyneton, Mildura, Ballarat and more.
Echuca’s Jack Russell will undertake a lineworker apprenticeship.
The apprentices and trainees are in a range of roles, including overhead lineworkers, electrical fitters, underground cable jointers, a meter technician, designer trainees, asset inspector trainees and a no-go zone trainee.
Head of operations and delivery Barry David said the annual intake was the only chance to join a Victorian electricity network directly as part of an in-house field team.
“It’s already been a big summer for our field teams and these new recruits are joining an energetic team dedicated to keeping the lights on for our communities,” he said.
“Our apprenticeship program is about building the next generation of our workforce — people who play an essential role in providing safe and reliable power to homes and businesses.”
Mr David said for each recruit, a mentor was assigned to help guide them through their course and on-the-job training.
“We’ve selected people with a positive attitude, who are community- and customer-minded, put safety first and who are eager to learn,” he said.
The Powercor and CitiPower apprenticeship program has been running for over 20 years, with more than 500 apprenticeships completing the program, with over 100 currently part of the workforce.
The 2026 apprentice intake will open later this year.
