With school holidays in full swing, the port has already been bustling with visitors and locals alike.
Port of Echuca marketing officer Gerard Oman said the Easter weekend was one of the busiest periods in the precinct’s events calendar.
“Easter is a very busy time for the Port of Echuca ... It is our busiest time of the year with both locals and visitors,” he said.
“It is hard to put a number on it, but there have already been many people, with full cruises and tours so far in the school holidays.
“We are expecting possibly a couple of thousand people to watch the fireworks and entertainment form the Echuca Wharf and surrounding areas.”
The regular cruises, Guided Walking Tours, Kids’ Adventure Tours and the Port After Dark tours will continue as normal throughout the Easter holidays.
Jenni Croft’s leather shed and friends are now in their second week of creative workshops and will remain open in the woodturners’ building from 1pm to 3pm for visitors.
On Easter Saturday, visitors can stop by the pop-up park to see information stalls from Turtles Australia, Bohollow Wildlife Shelter and Landcare Australia.
On the Sunday, the Easter bunny will be making an appearance at the port from 9.30am with Easter eggs to share, and the Billabong Ranch will set up in the pop-up park with pony rides for the kids.
The Kiwanis Club of Echuca Moama will also be at the pop-up park to keep everyone well fed with a barbecue on Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Moama Historical Vehicle Club will showcase classic cars along Murray Esplanade, and the Echuca Vintage Machinery Club will be operating its small engines at the southern end of the railway across both days.
From 1pm on Saturday, local artists will add to the festivities with live performances on the Echuca Wharf.
On Saturday, Elise Drake will kick off the performances from 1pm to 4pm and Darcy Ramage will take over on Sunday from 1pm to 4pm.
Following on from Darcy, Sun Grim Fawkner will take the stage from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.
Leading up to the evening’s grand finale, the Moama Grammar drumline will perform before fireworks light up the sky at 7.30pm.
Mr Oman said the Easter holidays were a great opportunity for locals and visitors to explore what the Port of Echuca has to offer.
“This time of the year with perfect weather is the time to start the journey of exploring the Port of Echuca,” he said.
“Whether you are a local or visitor, there is always something to see at the Port of Echuca, with free entry into the museum to uncover the story of why Echuca was so important to the development of the river trade but Australia as a whole.”
