Neither New Zealand international Nick Coles nor Victorian Ewan Bricker were willing to relinquish the contested space causing the 115mph collision while negotiating a disputed corner.
Both boats flipped on impact, forcing the drivers into an underwater escape.
No-one was injured in the collision and AFPGP treasurer Trent Duvall said he was happy with the swift rescue response.
“The rescue team arrived on the scene within seconds,” Mr Duvall said.
“Before we knew it both drivers were checked by the paramedics and all was OK.”

Bricker’s carbon fibre boat was back on the water in Race 3 having sustained no significant damage.
The Kiwi international was not as fortunate, forced to retire from the third round following extensive structural damage to his wooden boat.
New Zealand international Nick Coles was forced to retire after his boat was damaged in the collision.
Bricker rallied following the incident and finished runner-up on the Round 3 podium.
With the fourth and final round scheduled for Anzac Day weekend, Trent Duvall said the tournament was wide open.
“The points table is very close; five racers can still win the championship depending on results going into the final race,” he said.
