The meetings this Saturday will provide an opportunity to introduce these programs to the community and foster connections reflecting DSV’s ongoing commitment to working closely with regional communities.
DSV is Victoria’s statewide peak organisation representing people with Down syndrome and their families.
The community-based not-for-profit membership organisation advocates with and for people with Down syndrome to have access to the same opportunities, support and community activities as other Victorians.
DSV chief executive Daniel Payne said DSV understood the importance of fostering relationships with regional communities and ensuring people with Down syndrome and their families across the state had access to the support and resources they needed to live the lives they chose.
“We recognise the diverse needs of people with Down syndrome throughout Victoria, particularly in regional areas where accessing information and support can be challenging,” he said.
“By bringing out FitSkills and Club 21 programs to regional areas, and with the support of Strong and Resilient Communities from the Department of Social Services funding, we aim to foster a sense of community and provide resources to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.”
Club21 is a peer support network for people with Down syndrome to develop friendships and share social experiences with the support of a group leader and volunteers.
FitSkills is an evidence-based, 10-week physical activity program for individuals with Down syndrome, where each participant is paired with a dedicated FitSkills volunteer for motivation and support.
