Run the by the Deniliquin Local Health Advisory Committee, the 12-month Lifting Health Outcomes banner initiative was launched in February this year.
The goal is to encourage community members to stay active, learn about health, and share their knowledge.
From the results of a local survey, 12 common health conditions were identified as part of the education campaign.
They are: bowel cancer, kidney health, stroke, quitting smoking, disability support, mental health, skin cancer, lung health, dementia, heart health, diabetes and kids’ health.
A large pop-up banner on each topic has been produced, and they rotate throughout visible areas of the community.
Each banner provides basic information, and prominently features a QR code which will take people to where they can find “actionable ideas people can do that could contribute to better health outcomes”.
Complementing the banner campaign is a series of monthly forums, with each month based on one of the health areas.
Topic specific guest speakers are invited to each forum to share even more information with the community.
The idea of the project is to encourage people to consider a range of different health conditions which often go unchecked.
The ultimate goal is to improve health outcomes for the region.
For this initiative, Deniliquin LHAC has been nominated in two sections of the upcoming Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network’s Primary Healthcare Awards - Promoting Healthy Living and Murrumbidgee Community Grant of the Year.
Deni LHAC received a highly commended in the Murrumbidgee Community Grant of the Year section last year, for bringing the Legless and Blind program to Deniliquin.
MPHN said it received a record number of submissions for the 2024 Primary Healthcare Awards, which recognise primary health professionals and organisations that have provided significant and exceptional service or an outstanding contribution to primary healthcare in the Murrumbidgee region.
Winners of the five different award categories - which also include Innovation, Outstanding Contribution to Leadership in Primary Healthcare, and Emerging Leader - will be announced at an awards dinner on November 1. For details about the awards, go to mphn.org.au/awards.
