The Sunday, February 12 walk is the latest instalment of the awareness activity, which was started by Kyabram’s Mick Simpson.
Mr Simpson, who was last year recognised among Victoria’s top senior citizens, started Mick’s Memory Walk in Kyabram in June last year and walked via Seymour to Melbourne.
He raised more than $5000 for Dementia Australia, finishing on the steps of Parliament House where he met state Member for Murray Plains and National Party leader Peter Walsh.
The lake walk will start at 10am, with participants asked to meet outside Shepparton Art Museum.
Pets are welcome and people can walk as little or as far as they feel comfortable.
The event includes a sausage sizzle put on by the Kyabram Lions Club.
Ogranised by KDLC, the Don’t Demention It group meets on the last Thursday of every month, at the Lake Rd headquarters of KCLC.
Almost 500,000 people are living with dementia in Australia according to figures from Dementia Australia.
That number is expected to rise to more than one million in the next 20 years.
The toll of this increase is set to be significant, as data shows dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia and the leading cause of death for women.
