Nearly half of eligible Victorian women did not participate in breast screening between 2022 and 2024, prompting calls for increased awareness of this health service.
“It is alarming to see the low participation numbers, and we need to ensure all women are accessing this vital service,” state Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe said.
"Life can get busy, and it is easy for time to get away, but your health must be a priority," she said.
Having recently undergone screening herself, Ms O’Keeffe shared her experience.
“I had my breast screen a few weeks ago, and it is an incredibly quick and easy process that could save your life,” she said.
Breast cancer remains the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia and the most common among females, with diagnoses increasing by 24 per cent over the past decade.
