But if you have ever thought beyond the chocolate eggs and wondered about Easter, and its origins, then you are invited to participate in an Easter passover celebration at Benalla’s Lakeside Community Centre, on Sunday, April 13, from 5.30pm.
The passover is a commemorative meal, and still faithfully observed on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan, by Jewish and non-Jewish families around the globe, wherein the story of ‘passover’ is retold through the elements.
If you are old enough to remember Sunday school, you may recall lessons of Jesus on a cross, or the Last Supper, or of an empty tomb.
These things occurred at passover. But passover itself had been celebrated far earlier than the crucifixion of Jesus. Its origin goes back 1500 years earlier.
Fully catered by Benalla’s Pink Ladies, this event will be a full three-course participatory meal, with the story and explanation of passover presented by Barry Buirski of Celebrate Messiah.
Tickets are available through the various churches of Benalla and district, and must be purchased before Monday, April 7.
Adult tickets are $30 per head, while tickets for children under 12 are $20. No tickets can be purchased at the door.
Those interested in purchasing tickets are asked to contact Kevin on 0427 099 199, or Lynne on 0488 122 593.
