The Shepparton Disability Expo aims to bring awareness to and discuss the range of Goulburn Valley disability service providers, support co-ordinators, plan managers, independent service providers, equipment providers, carer support providers and allied health services available.
The expo will feature guest speakers presenting a Q&A session from Intereach, GV Ganarru Parasports and Travellers Aid, and ConnectGV is hosting a stall at the event, where staff will be available to discuss people’s needs and how they can assist.
Familycare’s Disability Support Services team leader Amanda Perry said the expo was an opportunity for Goulburn Valley residents to see what disability support was available in the community.
“The idea came to us at one of our Network of Disability Service meetings,” she said.
“We were discussing how it can be difficult for people with disability, their families and carers to find services or even know where to start looking.
“We want to provide an opportunity for our community to see what supports are out there and to promote and encourage organisations to work together to meet the community’s needs.
“Familycare and Intorec have partnered with ConnectGV, Shepparton Access and Intereach to create an expo that will be useful, informative and engaging.”
Wheelchair sports and other free activities will be available on the day, along with food and coffee vans.
“There will be more than 50 exhibitors on hand to discuss a wide range of supports and services, and free activities on the day from wheelchair basketball to all-ability skateboarding, giant games, arts and craft and more,” Ms Perry said.
“There will also be education providers there to assist anyone looking to get into working or volunteering in the disability, health and wellbeing sector.”
The Shepparton Disability Expo 2024 will be held at the McIntosh Centre, Thompson St, Shepparton, on Thursday, April 18, from 9am to 6pm and is free to enter.
