Details have emerged about the roads set to be targeted in a works ‘blitz’.

The Victorian Government is launching a $964 million road maintenance “blitz”, the largest single-year investment in road maintenance in the state’s history.

The program will see an equivalent of $2.6 million worth of works completed daily, with about 70 per cent of funding allocated to regional Victoria. Over the next nine months, crews will undertake thousands of projects across the network, including road rehabilitation, resurfacing and pothole patching, and maintenance of bridges, traffic lights, signage and road infrastructure.
Major works such as road rebuilding and rehabilitation are scheduled between now and May to take advantage of warmer and drier conditions, ensuring the longevity of repairs. The blitz will focus on the state’s busiest travel and trade routes, including the Hume Fwy, Goulburn Valley Hwy and Echuca-Mooroopna Rd.
“We’re investing nearly a billion dollars to rebuild and repair the roads that Victorians depend on every single day — from the highways connecting our major centres to the local roads that keep our communities moving,” Roads and Road Safety Minister Melissa Horne said.
The package also includes flood recovery works, with priority given to repairing regional Victoria’s flood-damaged roads. The final list of flood recovery projects will be confirmed in the coming months.
Roads were prioritised based on expert assessments and community feedback to ensure upgrades are focused where they are most needed.
