Greater Shepparton City Council liaised with user groups and the Deakin Reserve Advisory Committee to determine the most appropriate time to schedule the works.
The works are expected to take about one month. During the works, there will be no public access to the ground and the boundary fence gates will be locked.
Surrounding areas, including the netball courts and playground, will not be affected and can be accessed.
Council's parks, sport and recreation manager Tim Zak said the improvements to the pipes and sprinklers were crucial to make sure the irrigation of the field was efficient, effective and reliable.
“This will assist our staff ensuring Deakin Reserve continues to be presented as the premier sporting facility in Greater Shepparton,” he said.
“Although the works will provide a temporary disruption to user groups and the general public, it is important that these closures are observed as the ground will be a worksite with significant excavations.”
As part of the upgrade the Deakin Reserve cricket pitch will also undergo renewal works.
