Dash cam footage shows near miss in Fryers St

Some dash cam footage recently shared on the Eyewatch - Greater Shepparton Police Facebook page shows the terrifying moment a toddler narrowly avoids being hit by a car along Fryers St.

The footage shows a car travelling around 28km/h in the 50km/h zone down Fryers St in Shepparton when a toddler runs out onto the road from behind a parked car.

A lady is seen quickly grabbing the toddler and running out of harm’s way seconds before coming into contact with the car.

While the footage is a year old now, Shepparton Police Crime Prevention Officer Glenn Gibson said by sharing the footage with the community it showed a strong and very real example of how quickly a person could be exposed to road trauma, whether they were at fault or not.

The driver said by sharing the footage with police he hoped it would serve as a reminder to not only parents but also pedestrians to be mindful of what was going on in their surroundings.

“There is a message to put out there to parents to be vigilant when getting your kids out of the car, hold their hands the whole time, that one mistake can cause you to never see your child again,” he said.

“Another message would be for as many people to install dash cams in their cars as possible because the amount of accidents that happen is ridiculous.

“I installed one on the front and back of my car to protect me in case I had an accident and wasn’t able to tell people what happened they would have my dash cam footage to go by.”
