The theme celebrates reading stories and their amazing power to transport minds while encouraging school children to be curious about the wonders in our world.
Corowa Art Space was transformed into a literary wonderland with a special Book Week exhibition. A variety of activities was held, inviting young visitors to immerse themselves in the world of words and imagination.
Vintage library posters, as well as displays of favourite top 10 ranking children’s books from over the years, welcomed visitors into the Corowa Art Space with a trip down memory lane. Young visitors took part in a lucky dip, where they selected a free mystery book from the library’s archives to take it home to enjoy.
As the main attraction, the touring exhibition The Curious Explorers took visitors behind the scenes to see the work undertaken by artist Dorothy Roddy during the book illustration process.
The Curious Explorers book is full of Australian charm as it follows Lex and Mila’s adventure of discovery through their backyard. Visitors meandered through the Art Space and read the captivating words of author Leonie Napier as they observed delightful sketches, storyboards and original oil paintings.
Last Wednesday, creative duo Leonie and Dorothy held a book reading and signing event at which people acquired their own copy of The Curious Explorers book and participated in a craft activity.
Curious Explorers exhibition ends Monday
The Curious Explorers exhibition, which commenced on August 9 and runs until next Monday, September 2, will be on display at the Corowa Art Space. Opening hours are Wednesday through Friday, 10am to 4pm, and Saturday through Sunday, 10am to 2pm.
Artist Dorothy commented: "What you will get at this exhibition is a behind-the-scenes step by step guide on the way this book was created - from the original storytelling to the storyboard where we decided what pictures would be selected, the test oil paintings to check colours and styles and through to the final graphic design and book layout."
