Billington — who suits up for Prahran Cricket Club in Melbourne — was named in Cricket Victoria's 14-man emerging performance squad last week.
The winter program is designed to provide Victorian Premier Cricket and under-19 pathway players with an opportunity to be involved in a professional environment as they prepare for the 2020-21 season.
Players will train twice a week at the Junction Oval's CitiPower Centre under the guidance of specialist coaches with an emphasis on skills, strength and conditioning, nutrition, psychology and performance management.
The opening batsman will be joined in the squad by last year's Goulburn Valley Bush Bash League marquee player James Seymour.
Victorian assistant coach Andre Borovec said the program would provide those selected the chance to further their cricketing journey.
“This year’s emerging performance program aims to provide the selected players with continuity in their respective journeys in the game,” Borovec said.
“As has been traditionally the case, there are a broad range of skill sets and experience within the squad.
“We celebrate the fact that this squad provides some players who may not have had any pathway opportunities in the past with an opportunity to be involved.”
Billington's addition in the program comes off the back of a strong summer in Premier first-grade with Prahran.
Billington scored 542 runs at an average of 41 from 14 innings, with a top-score of 96 in round two against Kingston-Hawthorn.
He also showed his class in the game's shortest form, with a remarkable 112-run knock in the Super Slam Twenty20 competition.
And in February, Billington displayed his talents for Victoria in the Futures League, scoring two half-centuries in the win against ACT-NSW Country.
