For many, there’s nothing better than weekend cricket. The crack of a bat connecting with the ball. Sliced watermelon and oranges at the break, and iced water to wash it all down.
It’s for moments like these and many more that state Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy is encouraging cricket clubs across the district to apply for available grants from a major sporting body.
Grants of up to $40,000 are currently on offer by the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund, a group supported by Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia and committed to developing local cricket facilities.
Ensuring that local sporting clubs have adequate funding allows them to operate more effectively, allowing them to assist more people to play or support the game they love.
Since its founding in 2019, the ACIF has partnered with federal, state and local governments to invest more than $250 million and support over 60 projects in 2023/24.
In 2024/25, ACIF expects to contribute at least $5 million into local facility projects.
Mr McCurdy is willing to provide a letter of support for suitable applications.
Deadlines for applications close Sunday, March 23.
