Participants will be meeting twice a week for two hours each session as they rehearse and prepare for their upcoming production of Disney’s Aladdin Jr, a one-hour spectacle that will raise its curtains in November.
Creating Drama is an organisation dedicated to providing performing arts opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Founded five years ago, it has grown from five initial members to a vibrant community of 24 performers and seven support staff.
At its core, Creating Drama believes in the inclusion in the arts for all abilities, continuously pushing boundaries and demonstrating that there is no limit to what anyone can achieve.
Helen Janke, the owner and director of Creating Drama, brings a wealth of theatrical experience as well as strong connections with other performing arts groups.
One such example is with Back-to-Back Theatre, a renowned Geelong-based company that will be conducting workshops for the participants of the program.
Riverlinks manager Matthew Schroeders is excited to have the team from Creating Drama in residence.
“They bring life to the space, and are so overcome with joy to be able to call one of our spaces home for 12 months,” he said.
“We are so proud as an arts and creative industry leader to help build places that are accessible to all and encourage people to connect, and this project definitely does that.”
