In honour of World Pizza Day on February 9, a study conducted by Menulog proved Shepparton to be among the top five pizza-loving locations nationwide.
Alongside Sunbury and Wallan, Shepparton’s love for pizza has been acknowledged in Victoria, with Wentworth Falls and Katoomba in NSW.
When it comes to major areas ordering the most pizza, Melbourne takes the lead, placing significantly more orders than any other city.
Sydney follows behind with Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane making up the top five.
Based on overall takeaway preferences, Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide hold pizza as second in the ranks of top takeaway choices in cities across Australia.
In Perth and Hobart, it’s ranked third, while Brisbane and Darwin come in with the dish ranking fourth.
And despite the controversy, Hawaiian pizza became the second most ordered type of pizza after margherita.
But every city is unique.
Melbourne enjoys the simplicity of hand-crushed peeled tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil leaves on a thin-crust margherita.
Sydney leans into the explosion of flavours that various toppings on a supreme can provide, while Perth prefers sliced meats generously coated in rich barbecue sauce through a perfect meat lovers’.
And in Darwin and Hobart, the infamous pineapple on pizzas — Hawaiian — is a top pick.
As the era of fast, convenient food continues to satisfy the cravings of consumers around the country, the preference for pizza has held on steady.
“Pizza is more than just a meal,” Menulog’s Rory Murphy said.
“It’s a tradition.”
