Late on Friday, Executive Principal Barbara O’Brien notified the school community that the Department of Education and Training had given permission for selected year levels to remain at home on various days this week.
“Unfortunately, we are experiencing significant staff shortages due to COVID,” Ms O’Brien said.
“As a result, we are not able to cover a number of classes over next week.”
The school will monitor each day to reassess its human resources and will only keep students home if there is a significant shortage of teachers and classes cannot be covered.
Families will be notified in advance if planned absences change.
At this stage all Year 8 students will be home on Monday, March 28, Year 9 on Wednesday, March 30, Year 10 on Friday, April 1 and Year 7 on Monday, April 4.
Students will be able to access lessons online to complete work while they are at home but remote learning will not be provided.
Year 11 and 12 students will continue to learn at school every day.
The Year 7 camp will continue as planned from March 28-30.
Notre Dame College implemented a similar planned absence last week in response to staff shortages.
