Totalling over $39,000 in grants, notable recipients include 658 Wyndham St, Shepparton, which will see a $6000 upgrade for its chimney exterior cladding.
Mooroopna Mechanics Hall Inc is set to shine with a $3030 grant for a fresh front facade. Gowangardie Homestead secures a $10,000 boost for substantial verandah repairs.
The property at 40 Orr St, Shepparton, will receive $1458 for cladding replacement; St Germain’s Homestead was granted $9900 for verandah cladding.
The old butcher’s shop, established in 1886, in Tallygaroopna, will receive $8400 for verandah and guttering repairs, and the former Harston Church was allocated $858 for roof and box gutter fixes.
Established in 2012, the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee advocates for all cultural heritage matters within the region and plays a crucial role in maintaining the area’s historical buildings.
The grants program was introduced in 2017 to promote conservation works that improve a place’s physical security or appearance while respecting its significance.
Mayor Shane Sali commended the high quality of applications this year, highlighting the importance of cultural heritage in Greater Shepparton.
“The region’s cultural heritage is essential to our community, adding character, appeal and interest,” he said.
“Completion of the works funded through these grants will assist in the conservation of places of heritage significance across the entire municipality.”
In an effort to preserve the region’s history, the grants program plays a pivotal role in maintaining and promoting the cultural heritage that defines the region’s past and identity.
