Sessions on ‘Committees, Governance and Leadership’ and ‘Enabling and supporting community-based advocacy’ will be held.
These workshops will be presented by the Institute of Community Directors and supported by Greater Shepparton City Council.
The Committees, Governance and Leadership; workshop will explore why good governance is the key to every aspect of a not-for-profit organisation’s health.
The workshop will be held on Thursday, May 15 from 6pm to 8pm.
Key topics include:
- The roles and responsibilities of committee members
- Important financial duties
- Governance versus management
- Codes of conducts
- Acts
- Regulations
- Constitutions and policies that apply to organisations governed by a committee or board
- Where to find the information required to fulfil roles
The ‘Enabling and supporting community-based advocacy workshop’ will explore the various types of advocacy and how an organisation or community group can benefit from engaging in advocacy or supporting their members to do so.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, June 18 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
The session will provide practical tips for running successful advocacy campaigns, discuss effective risk management strategies and outline approaches to engaging with government at all levels.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali encouraged all local groups to take advantage of these free sessions.
“Council is committed to supporting our local community groups and not-for-profits by providing valuable training opportunities that strengthen their leadership and governance,” he said.
“These workshops will equip participants with essential knowledge and practical tools to create well-governed organisations who can advocate for their priorities.

All sessions will be conducted online via Zoom and the link will be provided by email when booking is confirmed.
