Council park service leader Andrew Watt said that although residents could expect to see a moderate flood level in Shepparton on Wednesday night, it would be nowhere as extreme as the October 2022 flood event.
“(We’re) predicting it not to be as bad as October 2022, so with that in mind, if you didn’t flood (then), you won’t flood now unless something drastic happens,” he said.
“(We’re) predicting that it’s going to be moderate on Wednesday night into Thursday morning in Shepp.”
Mr Watt said that although people were preparing for the worst, they were calmer than during the October 2022 flood event.
“(People are) not as panicked (as last time), we haven’t had a rush or anything, it’s been fairly quiet today,” he said.
Council is still preparing for the worst-case scenario.
“We’re just here filling sandbags and making sure we’ve got plenty for people coming in,” Mr Watt said.
“Follow the advice from VicEmergency and the council’s Facebook page. That’s got to be my best advice.”
The site will remain open until 8pm on Tuesday and will be available for residents from 8am to 8pm tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10.
