She has been a resident of the area her whole life and has no plan to leave.
“I live right in the middle of Balaclava Ward,” Ms Teasdale said.
“I’ve lived in five different homes in that area in that ward, and I was actually born in Balaclava Ward.”
She said she had had a keen interest in local government for as long as she could remember.
“I've always been passionate about local government,” she said.
“I left school and went to work for Murray Slee, and he was a councillor and a mayor, and that sort of inspired me to service through council.
“I like the idea of service to the local people and keeping our local area in good condition.”
She said she wanted to stand in the ward she called home, as it was near and dear to her heart.
“I live there, and I feel passionate about it,” she said.
“I’ve watched it develop throughout my life.”
She said if elected to council her top priorities would be flooding and water use.
“The things that worry me are the floods, the flooding around Shepparton, because I don’t believe anyone’s doing anything substantial to prevent it happening again,” she said.
“I have a history in the water, and I’ve always been interested in water and irrigation, and I just feel that more needs to be done.”
She is also keen on getting another bridge across the Goulburn off the ground and over the river.
“I’m passionate about another bridge across the river, and I think we need to forget the bypass thing, just get the bridge built first,” Ms Teasdale said.
“We have wasted so many hundreds of thousands on consultants over this whole thing, and still, we haven't got a bridge.”
Ms Teasdale said her love for the area stemmed from her family and history.
“I have four children who live in Greater Shepparton, and they all run businesses,” she said.
“I have 12 grandchildren, many of whom live in Shepparton and have been schooled in Shepparton.
“I just feel it’s my home and I have a responsibility to keep it nice.”
