The late Lance Woodhouse was a founding director and long-time chairman of Kavant Nominees, developer of the estate.
He has now been honoured with the naming of a park in the area. The name Lance Woodhouse Village Green was approved at Greater Shepparton City Council’s September meeting for the park adjacent to Kialla Lakes Dve and Waranga Dve.
Mr Woodhouse was a driving force behind the establishment of the estate, which now has more than 1700 homes.
Council said he had a strong connection to the precinct, and the development of the parkland was pivotal in his vision for the estate.
Council received a community request to name the reserve the Lance Woodhouse Village Green earlier this year, and the proposed name was placed on public notice for 30 days.
With no submissions received, council was able to approve the name by way of a formal council resolution. It will now be gazetted by Geographic Names Victoria.
Mayor Shane Sali said council was pleased to be able to approve the name in honour of Mr Woodhouse, who left a remarkable legacy for Greater Shepparton.
“The name Lance Woodhouse is very well known in the region, and it is fantastic that we are now able to honour that by the naming of a prominent park in Kialla Lakes,” he said.
“Lance and his wife, Wilma, built their family home in Lonsdale Square overlooking the parkland, so it is only fitting that it is named after him and his achievements.
“Lance played a pivotal role in establishing Kialla Lakes Estate and making it the thriving community it now is.”
