PREMIUM News Cosplay characters at Plaza Theatre By Rohan Aldous Jul 19, 2022 Blast from the past: Star Wars has managed to stay cool throughout the decades, in spite of the fact the George Lucas-directed movies first hit the big screens of the Plaza Theatre in Kyabram in 1977. Kyabram’s Ruby Vanderdonk preferred a more modern superhero for her costume and was surrounded by some of the Star Wars droid characters. Villains and heroes: Shepparton’s mother and daughter combination, Susan and Joy Parnell, represented good and evil at the Campaspe shire Cosplay event at Kyabram’s Plaza Theatre. Favourite characters: Isabella Cartwright (left, as Kinoko from My Hero Academia), Hailee Smith (No Face) and Aero Richards (a pirated named Ambrose, of her own creation) were on hand for the pizza and cosplay celebrations at the event on Saturday evening. Nothing strange about this: Kara Harris is part of the Bendigo cosplay community and was among several costumed participants to travel to Kyabram for the event. She is, of course, Dr Strange — of Marvel fame. Making a statement: Bron Faisst and Mary Rose, who went dress as Tom Baker’s Dr Who character, caught up at the event to discuss their favorite movie, television and book characters.
