In the past, Converge on the Goulburn usually ran over a two-day period during the evenings.
However, this year an extended one-day event will take place in Shepparton on April 12, from noon to 7pm.
“To maximise the opportunity through the school holidays, one day is the most efficient way to get people here and provide entertainment over that whole day, giving people options not only through the day but also into the evening,” City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said.
The festival will feature a variety of attractions, including music, food, cultural displays, kids’ activities, art workshops and performances.
Attendees can participate in the Activities in the Park silent disco, stand-up paddle-boarding and peddle boats on the lake.
In partnership with the Shepparton Festival, Converge on the Goulburn will showcase live music and performances on a dedicated stage.
Local talents will have the opportunity to share their cultures through dance, music and song.
This year's lineup includes performances by the Shepparton Albanian Society, Know Your Roots, Collin Bogaars FUN ARTS Creative Entertainment, SHEMA Shepparton, Heard Instinct Collective, Oz Team, and Lamine Sonko and the African Intelligence.
Alongside the performances, opportunities are presented to all cultural groups to participate in expressing their culture and serving their food.
“The council intends, as always with any of any event, to provide the most opportunities to locals and whether that’s through community groups, it’s about selling and promoting their culture,” Cr Sali said.
Yum Yum May is a food truck-based family business, run by Daniel Lim.
Daniel has been a vendor at previous Converge on the Goulburns, and his wife and his son help assist run the truck at busy events.
“People like our food because they like to try different things; our food represents our country,” Daniel said.
Converge on the Goulburn is a free family community festival with food and drinks available to purchase on site. It is an alcohol-free event.
