The contract for the works has been awarded by Greater Shepparton City Council to local business Jarvis Delahey Contractors, with construction to begin early September.
The intersection will be closed for about nine weeks, weather permitting, to allow for construction of the roundabout.
Due to the full closure of this busy intersection, motorists are encouraged to begin planning alternate travel routes during the nine-week construction time frame.
Signed detours will be in place to direct motorists, with Channel Rd available throughout the construction period.
Council infrastructure director Gary Randhawa said the roundabout upgrade was a high priority for council, with between 140 and 180 vehicles passing through the intersection per day.
“The construction of the roundabout will significantly increase traffic safety at this important intersection with the intention of reducing speed, risk, traffic accidents and most importantly, fatalities,” he said.
“Full closure and detours while the construction is undertaken will reduce the safety risk to passenger and commercial vehicles, along with the construction staff.
“The construction period aims to utilise the spring school holidays to reduce any disruption to traffic as much as possible.”
