Rubbish, graffiti, spilt drinks and food were reported to be strewn across the car park and its stairwell.
Before the News could reach out to the car park owners, Care Park, for a comment on the situation, the facility had already been cleaned up.
However, it raised the question of why it had fallen into such a bad state.
A spokesperson for Care Park said while it worked to provide a seamless parking experience to its customers, there needed to be support from the community.
“With all our parking facilities provided for the public’s benefit, there needs to be a partnership between the parking provider and the public to maintain and, in turn, respect the facilities,” a spokesperson said.
“There are site challenges of antisocial behaviour at the Stewart St car park, which we do not encounter at other sites.
“We work very hard towards maintaining a high standard of operations and cleanliness at this car park, but it seems some members of the public continue to abuse the facilities.”
The spokesperson said the company deployed a maintenance team to the car park to clean it on Tuesday, January 30, to give it a fresh start for the new year, and would work to maintain it over the year.
Though the end result of the clean-up is an improvement, graffiti and stains remain in areas of the car park and stairwell due to damage from members of the public.
Care Park encourages residents to look after the facilities and report any damage.
“All antisocial behaviour we encounter is highly discouraged and attended to in the appropriate manner to provide a convenient, well-maintained parking facility for all the people and visitors to Shepparton to enjoy,” the spokesperson said.
To report any issues or damage to the car park, visit the Care Park website and submit a ‘contact us’ form or email customerservice@carepark.com.au
