Rochester FNC president Justin Cleary, who handed over the $2000 cheque, said the club had a lot to be thankful to the CFA for.
“We called upon the CFA to help us with our 150th anniversary celebration. We wanted our members and volunteers who would normally work those events to have an opportunity to enjoy it,” he said.
“The CFA was kind enough to support us and was just fantastic. They’re experts in their fields, so logistics and planning seemed to come naturally to them.
“They also helped us clean our facilities after the flood, so we just really wanted to show our support.”
Karen Watson, who organises many of these events with the club, said the 150th anniversary showed how the community supported each other.
“We couldn’t have done it on our own, so getting that help was just amazing,” she said.
“We are very lucky in our community the way everyone helps out. Especially that night, there were so many groups who wanted to help us so we could celebrate.”
Rochester CFA Captain Luke Warren said the money would be a real help to the station.
"We’ll use (the money) for equipment that CFA doesn’t provide. It will be stuff that we can use for our community and stuff that will benefit the community as a whole,” he said.
“This is a classic example of the country town mentality. We all help each other out, and particularly after the floods, this money will help replenish some of the stuff that we lost.
“One of the things that’s really good about being a part of a community like this is that we help each other out. It’s just fantastic to be one of those recipients.”
