Helping local communities become ‘stronger’
Local Federal Members, Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell and Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley are inviting nominations from not-for-profit organisations across their electorates to apply for funding under the Commonwealth Government’s Stronger Communities Programme.
Cash grants of between $2,500 to $20,000 are available to spend on new equipment or upgrades, installing solar panels, computer or I.T. gear, adding new war memorials and much more.
Every federal electorate in Australia receives a total of $150,000 under the program, with a local independent committee assessing funding for up to 20 local projects.
Initial applications are welcome through an Expressions of Interest (EOI) form which is available both Ms Ley’s and Ms Haines’ website or give their office a call.
It is strongly advised to carefully check your eligibility, including the type of items or activities you can take on, listed in detail with the official government guidelines.

Hospital politics
In the current economic times using funds well should be the aim to get a good result.
The current hospital site is logistically ideal, close to the town’s population and the airport.
The new cancer centre (in Albury) complements the hospital and the health care.
The all-in-together is a well-orchestrated set-up by some and all about politics.
Big city hospitals grow where they are. The health care debate and all in together culture need to go to the satellite hospitals that are in dire need of funds and improvements.
Corowa Hospital is a prime example that local politicians should be focussed on
As for Albury Hospital, it needs a name change that covers the regions it serves.
Maybe we should not all get drawn in together to get the best outcomes in this political game at our expense.
Cross-border health also goes beyond Albury Hospital and many places are well served by the Wangaratta Hospital also.
