State member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland and Federal member for Nicholls Sam Birrell spoke with classes about the differences in responsibilities for politicians at a state and federal level.
“We were able to explain what being an MP is like, what responsibilities we have and what we are trying to do for our local communities,” Ms Cleeland said.
“It’s an opportunity to talk with kids about what they find important, how they view leadership and just to have some fun.
“We conducted a mock election to show how preferential voting works, using some well-known names like Taylor Swift, Batman and Dustin Martin to get the kids involved.”
Students also presented as the deputy for “Member for Colbinabbin” where they got to raise local issues regarding pedestrian safety, agricultural market prices and poor road conditions.
Ms Cleeland has previously met with the school community and local families to discuss improving the safety conditions surrounding the school.
“Local residents have made it very clear to me — this crossing is not safe for their children,” she said.
“They have told me of several near misses between the children and the heavy traffic and are rightfully concerned.
“I have raised this with the minister and will be continuing to advocate for better safety measures for our local children.”
