Many got creative with their posts, including the Visit River Country team who successfully pranked many on Facebook with their ‘Codzilla’ post.
The post showed an AI-generated man posing with a 2.5m long Murray cod weighing ‘as much as a small car’.
It received almost 2000 reactions on Facebook, more than 500 shares and over 900 comments.
The Visit River Country Facebook has also gained 200 extra followers through the post.
Murray River Council tourism marketing and events officer Kristy Hayes said the story gained more traction than she had intended.
“It was great... I just had a play around, I wasn’t trying to trick people and most people took it in jest,” she said.
“The point was to draw people to our Visit River Country page but it got a lot more attention than I thought it would get.
“I hope it has draws more people to Mathoura to try and catch the ‘Codzilla’.”
The team at 102.5 Edge FM radio station had people considering installing a big goat statue for Echuca.

On top of cutlery hoarders, the taskforce proposed to target those who don't clean the toastie maker, leave their meal prep to transition into toxic waste in the communal fridge or eat their tuna salad or reheated broccoli on the open-plan floor.
The post even included some quotes from Detective Inspector Mike Crowavè.
“If you are one of the calculated criminals currently hoarding Anko's finest forks and teaspoons at your desk, consider yourself on notice,” he said.
“Put simply, we’ve had enough, petty cash has had enough, and we make no apologies for enforcing public forking decency."
Many of the people in the comments bonded over the shared experiences of working in offices.
