Cobram students visit ag-related businesses

A bright and sunny day is always a promising start.

Especially if that day involves exploring future pathways, which Cobram Anglican Grammar School students did on Wednesday, May 15.

Year 9 and 10 students spent the day visiting businesses around the area as part of the Race Goulburn initiative, which aims to introduce students to various jobs in the agricultural sector.

Students visited Booth Transport’s depot in Strathmerton and learnt about the trucking, cleaning and the sustainable worm farming operations.

They then travelled to the Frances Cecil Farm in Killawarra to learn about how flowers are grown for sale and how the business was established.

The day ended on a sweet note when the students went to Yarck to visit Koala Cherries.

Here, they discovered how soil, irrigation, fertilisers, hormones and pesticides are managed to regulate cherry growth to enable quick flowering and harvesting.
