On Sunday, May 12, Australians will celebrate Mother’s Day offering an assortment of gifts and enjoying special meals.
Australians spent an estimated $925 million on Mother's Day in 2023 with businesses ranging from hospitality to gift shops and florists all getting in on the special day.
In Cobram businesses are already preparing for the traditional rush.
Melissa Crisafulli, D’Vine Ideas owner, is already preparing for the annual surge.
“Everyone likes to celebrate their mums or their grandma or someone that might be just a motherly figure in their life,” she said.
“it’s always a busy time for us.”
Ms Crisafulli said traditionally gift packs containing a diverse range of items have always been popular with customers and the store does a roaring trade customising bespoke packages for people to give to their loved ones.
Other items that are popular include homeware items like mugs, lifelike artificial flowers, and fragrances
Ms Crisafulli said a popular favourite of clients are the Ecoya candles and diffusers.
As for price, Ms Crisafulli said there is something in the price range of every customer.
“It doesn't matter what budget you have, you can come in ... and we will make something look amazing for you.”
Such sentiments regarding cost are also shared by Cobram Florist and Gifts owner Jaclyn Tickell.
“We can budget for you, $20 or $30 up to $200,“ Ms Tickell said.
“We can accommodate whoever and whatever their budget.”
Like many florists nationwide, Ms Tickell is getting ready for the big day and has spent the last month organising and ordering stock.
According to Ms Tickell, she and her team will put together hundreds of flower arrangements in the lead up to the big day.
“It's our busiest time,” Ms Tickell said.
“It's bigger than Valentine's Day because .... not everybody has a Valentine or somebody special.”
According to Ms Tickell, a bouquet of flowers is traditionally popular with clients.
There are of course those who don’t like receiving flowers and for such a case, Cobram Florist and Gifts stocks a wide assortment of teddy bears, candles and chocolates for clients to purchase for Mother’s Day.
