Clubs and organisations shine on Discovery Day

With more than 1000 people taking part, residents revelled in the chance to explore the different clubs and organisations that showed out for Discovery Day last Saturday.

Library Services manager Jenny Mustey said it had been a terrific day.

“We had a great response from several organisations on the day, and we had a really good crowd,” she said.

“Everyone’s stayed around till about one o’clock, which is a good indication that people were still happy and engaging with business. So overall, it was quite successful.”

The positive response didn’t come just from the people attending but also from those running the club stalls as well.

“People are really keen to have another one. They thought it was well organised, and they felt the communication was really great,” Ms Mustey said.

“One of the biggest bonuses of the day was the interaction between the clubs and the conversations that they were having. They got to share ideas and meet people they haven’t met or catch up with people they haven’t seen in a while. So that was a really lovely part of it as well.”

Being a connecting point for the community is an essential function of the library.

“We are really focused on providing a really good way for people to connect socially, and this was an ideal opportunity to do that,” Ms Mustey said.

“It showcased what the library has to offer and all the things we have during the week, and it’s also a great community connector.

“We really, really focused on bringing people together, particularly picking up people that are not feeling that they’ve got much on their plate at the moment.”
