The Giant Charity Garage Sale, hosted by Soroptimist International of Shepparton, is set to kick off right after Easter, running from Saturday, April 26, until Saturday, May 3.
In the meantime, let’s talk dust bunnies.
This much-anticipated event invites everyone to check their cupboards and garages for space destroyers and time-not-to-be-a-hoarder items to donate.
Accepted items include household goods, clothing, furniture, electrical items and linens, all of which should be in good condition.
For larger items that are difficult to transport, pickup can be arranged.
Additionally, community members who own an empty shop or shed are encouraged to contact the Shepparton Soroptimists, as the venue for the sale is still being finalised.
All proceeds from the twice-yearly sale support local charities and initiatives to improve the lives of women and girls in Shepparton and its surrounding areas, including Horses for Hope, GV Health’s oncology unit, the Big Sister Experience and more.
How do they support so many?
Well, the Shepparton Soroptimists are not just a group of women who knit, make cakes and drink cups of tea.
They organise impactful community events such as the International Women’s Day breakfast, the Valentine’s Day luncheon, Oaks Day celebrations and street stalls at Bunnings.
To keep up the good work, the 30 team members are calling for more women to join their ranks.
“If you have a desire to contribute to your local community, come and join us,” Shepparton Soroptimist Jill Pinner said.
“We meet monthly at Shepparton’s Parklake every third Thursday at 6pm.
“We have a meal and then get stuck into business.”
And business is booming.
