The initiative was put in place as part of council’s ongoing recovery efforts following the October 2022 floods, and aims to bring together families, strengthen community connections and celebrate the region’s collective resilience.
The cinema series will run across two other towns, with the big screen to pop up in Strathbogie Recreation Reserve and Euroa’s Seven Creeks Park as well.
The events will feature family-friendly films playing after sunset under the stars, along with delicious food.
Each town is set to be offered a unique experience.
Mayor Claire Ewart-Kennedy said the outdoor cinema series was about more than just entertainment.
“These events provide a space for families and friends to come together, unwind and enjoy something positive after such a challenging time,” Cr Ewart-Kennedy said.
“Recovering from a disaster isn’t just about rebuilding infrastructure — it’s about rebuilding connections.
“Events like these help strengthen the bonds within our towns and remind us that we are stronger together.”
The cinema in Nagambie will go ahead on Friday, February 21, with the film Manou the Swift to be played just after sunset.
Attendees are welcome to arrive to Buckley Park at 7pm to indulge in a range of food trucks.
The Strathbogie event, held on Thursday, February 20, and that in Euroa, held on Saturday, February 22, will each feature different films for the whole family to enjoy.
The events are funded by the Community Recovery Hub, which itself is jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
“We want these events to be enjoyable for everyone,” Cr Ewart-Kennedy said.
“With free entry, great films and fantastic food, there’s something for all ages to enjoy.
“Bring a blanket, grab a bite to eat and settle in for a night of fun under the stars.”
Bookings are not required for the events.
