The Chief Inspector made the move to Deniliquin a few weeks ago, and started his new job with the Murray River Police District this week.
He came to Deni from the Surrey Hills area of Sydney, but before that he was based near Broken Hill with the Barrier Police Command.
With a strong focus on community policing, Chief Insp Fuller has been taking the time to get to know his community and his team.
Since starting in the role on Monday, he has made a point of visiting various businesses and community organisations.
He and some of his officers supplied biscuits for afternoon tea at the Deniliquin Menshed on Wednesday, and Chief Inspector Fuller has also made sure to introduce himself at the visitor information centre and at the Edward River Council polling booth.
He also visited the Deniliquin & District Historical Society museum in his own time, and plans to return for afternoon tea with members to discuss community matters.
As well as a chance to get to know his new community, which he will call home for a minimum of three years, Chief Insp Fuller says the visits very much reflect his vision of policing.
“I really want to look at how we connect with the community.
“I believe that if you don’t know who your local police are in a community like this, we’re not doing our full job.
“I look forward to being involved with upcoming events like the Deniliquin Ute Muster and the Deniliquin High School’s driver education program.”
Chief Insp Fuller said he also hopes to increase connections through the support of initiatives which engage youths and other members of the community.
It may include programs similar to those he was involved in at Broken Hill, through the Police Citizens Youth Club.
Chief Insp Fuller has been with the NSW Police Force for 34 years, but grew up as a member of the police family.
“I wanted to be a police officer because I wanted a job that would allow me to help people, but also my father was in the police.
“Growing up around that showed me that this would be a job where I could go different places, meet people and help them.
“It’s about giving back and continuing a legacy.”
Throughout his policing career Chief Insp Fuller has worked in a number of areas, which includes criminal investigations and major events.
