Visitors and locals alike will compete in the challenge, all hoping to hook a few fish and take home one of the many prizes.
And they’ll be competing for a big prize pool, totalling $60,000, even giving those who don’t catch a fish a chance to win.
Whether as a family or on a solo mission, it will provide a fantastic opportunity to get out on the river and simply enjoy the fun.
Funds raised not only help with fish restocking programs, but also support CanAssist Deniliquin.
Heatwave continues
Deni has had its fair share of hot weather recently, halting sports and training nights in its wake.
This week alone is due to eclipse 40° for a number of days.
Not only is it affecting social lives, it presents a whole other basket of challenges for people to deal with, including fire danger.
Tips to stay fire safe over this heatwave includes installing the correct amount of smoke alarms for your home, having an escape plan in the event of a fire, having hoses long enough to reach around your house and don’t let tree debris build up around your yard.
Run for fun
Park Run is a fantastic way to keep fit and healthy without the stress of competing or feeling as though you have to.
Register (only once in your life) at www.parkrun.com.au.
It’s then a matter of taking your barcode to the McLean Beach car park by 7.50am on Park Run days, walk up to the start at the end of the dirt road past the car park, and then you can walk, run, volunteer or spectate. Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult, and while dogs are welcome there is a maximum of one dog per person on short, non-extendable, hand-held lead.
The next McLean Beach Park Run will be this Saturday, February 8.
Watch page
The Deniliquin Crime, Thefts and Neighbourhood Watch Facebook page has shared several more pieces of footage that show thieves in the night trying to steal from locals.
The page was set up to help curb the amount of crime in Deni.
The page has posts from locals who have footage to share, have heard and sighted people in their yard and other concerned locals.
Farmers’ market
Naponda Deniliquin will be holding its farmers’ market this weekend.
The regular market takes place on the second Saturday of each month and is the ideal place to purchase some of the best and freshest produce in town.
A variety of local stallholders come together to offer a lovely variety of foods, giftware and produce.
Ski club invite
Deniliquin Boat Club welcomes visitors during the summer months to its weekly Friday night ski school. Guests can enjoy a drink and dinner while watching the fun on the water.
Other upcoming events at the Boat Club include Victoria Wakeboard competitions and barefoot come and try days.
The club has been running its ski school for several months with support of club members, teaching youngsters how to water ski. It has enjoyed good attendance, but would welcome more before the end of summer.
