The week-long celebration has been a driver for starting conversation and building connections between cultures for over two decades.
It runs from Monday, March 18 to Sunday, March 24, this year.
This year’s theme invites everyone to weave a tapestry of vibrant experiences with Our Shared Stories — Celebrating Together.
The goal is to look beyond individual narratives and to encourage the recognition and celebration of the beautiful intersections that enrich our community.
Celebrations will kick off at the Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre with Sample Shepp & GV, a bite-sized taste of the different cultural foods of the region.
Samples of tasty treats from some of the many cultures that call Shepparton home will be available from 10am to noon every day during the week.
Throughout the week, residents and visitors can also take part in a range of engaging activities.
These include movie nights at the Shepparton Library, culture focused quizzes at the Tatura Library and Sashiko (a type of Japanese embroidery) for beginners at the Mooroopna Library.
Holi — festival of colours — will be held at Ferrari Park, Mooroopna, and the Shepparton Golf Club will be hosting Harmony Day.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali encouraged residents to acknowledge and celebrate Cultural Diversity Week by taking part in these events.
“Greater Shepparton is known for its rich diversity and large multicultural community,” he said.
“Around 15 per cent of our population was born in a country other than Australia. Cultural Diversity Week allows us bring people together to promote and embrace community harmony, and celebrate the many cultures that make Greater Shepparton and Australia so vibrant.”
