Students at Grahamvale Primary School came to school on Monday, March 21, dressed in orange or the traditional dress from their country of origin to celebrate their own and each other’s cultures on Harmony Day.
Student Milla Cooks said the message of Harmony Day was “everyone belongs”, while Levi Traianidis said it was an opportunity to “celebrate all of our cultures”.
School vice-captain Karthik Birudaraji said Harmony Day was “a good opportunity to share my life outside school and my thoughts and feelings”.
Assistant principal Anda O’Keeffe said Grahamvale Primary School had a rich, culturally-diverse school community, with families from around the world.
“The day aims to engage people to participate in their community, respect cultural and religious diversity and foster a sense of belonging for everyone,” she said.
Right across the school after lunch students took part in a variety of activities with the theme of “respectful relationships”.
