Shepparton Police and Country Fire Authority members were called to the car fire in Windlass Ave, Mooroopna just before 4am yesterday.
A CFA media spokesperson said when they arrived at the scene the white VF SS Commodore wagon parked in the driveway of the address was completely engulfed in flames.
‘‘Three units attended the scene from Mooroopna and Shepparton,’’ they said.
It took crews just under 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control which completely destroyed the vehicle.
Shepparton Police Detective Senior Constable Jacob Sinclair said CFA members declared the fire as suspicious and a crime scene was established shortly after.
‘‘Myself and a fire investigator attended the scene about 9.30am and confirmed the fire was deliberately lit,’’ he said.
‘‘It looks like an accelerant was used on the outside of the vehicle.’’
Sen Const Sinclair estimated the damaged caused to the vehicle to be around $40,000.
He appealed for anyone in the area with CCTV footage or who saw anything round the time of the blaze to contact the Shepparton Police Station.
‘‘The investigations are ongoing at this stage,’’ Sen Const Sinclair said.
