Shepparton Police Sergeant Mark Phillips said the sedan was detected at a high speed on the Midland Hwy near Stanhope.
Police gave chase when they saw it travelling at what they allege was 160km/h at the intersection of the highway and Tatura-Undera Rd at Tatura at 7.25pm, Sgt Phillips said.
He said the driver sped off on police while they were pursuing the vehicle and that it allegedly reached a speed of 201km/h at Ardmona.
Police used stop sticks on the highway in Ardmona, with the vehicle then driven into Ardmona Rd, where it came to a halt and the four occupants allegedly ran off across paddocks.
Two of the occupants were caught in the area, while police arrested another two later in the same area.
Police allege stolen items were also found inside the vehicle which has since been impounded by police.
The driver, a 17-year-old Bendigo boy, has been charged with a number of charges including dangerous driving while pursued by police, driving at a dangerous speed, unlicensed driving and driving an unregistered vehicle.
He has been remanded in custody to face a children’s court later this month.
A 14-year-old Bendigo boy who was a passenger in the vehicle has been charged with handling stolen goods, as well as other charges relating to other police matters from Bendigo and Melbourne.
Two 16-year-old Bendigo boys who were passengers in the vehicle have been released from police custody, but inquiries are pending.
