This year marks the 20th year anniversary of the club, started in 2005 by a small local committee of like-minded individuals who wanted to share their passion for campdrafting.
In co-operation with the Lockington Pony Club, Scurrah Reserve became home to the Lockington & District Campdraft Club as well as the Rich River Campdraft Club.
Campdrafting, being uniquely Australian, is a horse sport with origins that date back to the late 19th century.
Campdrafting is a fast-paced sport requiring horse and rider to display their skills by cutting a beast out of a mob of cattle, bringing it up to the front of the camp, working it to accumulate points before leaving the camp and completing a four-leaf type pattern in 40 seconds or less.
Today, campdrafting is one of the fastest growing horse sports, even being televised in some parts of the country.
The weekend involves about 150 to 200 competitors, local and from abroad, competing on horses, along with 500 to 600 head of cattle used to complete the sport.
Club members could not enjoy this sport without the local farmers who generously donate their livestock and equipment for the annual event.
The club prides itself on being community-minded and would love for the community to come and enjoy the weekend with them to get to know the new and old faces behind the Lockington & District Campdraft club.
Food and beverages will be available throughout the weekend, as well as Saturday night entertainment.
The club looks forward to seeing members of the Lockington community join in celebrating its 20th-year anniversary event and to enjoy a weekend full of campdrafting action.
