“Three new cases in Campaspe; the source for one case is under investigation and the results of two other cases, including one in Moira Shire, are really under review and being re-tested today,” Professor Sutton said.
“So, looking at re-testing for the purpose of understanding if that result is true.”
Echuca Regional Health acting chief executive June Dyson confirmed the health service was notified on Thursday night that three people who attended its screening clinic had tested positive.
"None live in Echuca and with contact tracers currently overwhelmed it will be a couple of days or more before we know where they have been," she said.
She said two of the cases had been asymptomatic, and all three were being tested again today.
Greater Shepparton also recorded a new case, according to Mr Sutton.
Goulburn Valley Health chief executive Matt Sharp followed the press conference with an announcement on social media.
"There have been two new cases overnight of people that have tested positive for COVID-19 who are currently in Shepparton. One of these people has a Shepparton address and the other person has an address in the Campaspe Shire. Therefore, there may be a difference in reporting of active cases today and in coming days," Mr Sharp said.
"These new cases are not linked to the recent outbreak in Shepparton and contact tracing is progressing."
The Campaspe region has experienced 14 cases in total since the outbreak began last year.
The statement comes in the context of 733 cases state-wide today, and a record 766 cases yesterday.
There are currently 7,160 active cases across Victoria.
56,520 COVID-19 tests were reportedly conducted in the last 24 hours, according to the Department of Health & Human Services.
