There was not a dry eye in the house when on Friday, December 13, on his final day of a magnificent and brilliant career, Dr Kevin Quin was farewelled by his colleagues at Cobram Anglican Grammar School.

Kevin’s illustrious career spans over five decades, marked by an unwavering commitment to education, student welfare, and the field of psychology. His journey reflects a remarkable evolution from a passionate teacher to a recognised psychologist and academic contributor.
In 1969, Kevin Quin commenced his Bachelor of Arts degree at Monash University, graduating in 1971. This foundation in the arts was further strengthened when he completed his Diploma of Education in 1972, marking the beginning of a lifelong commitment to learning and teaching.
Kevin’s teaching career began in 1973 at Paisley High School, Newport West. Over the next two decades, he took on progressively significant roles at various schools.
1976: At Numurkah High School, he served as the English co-ordinator, demonstrating his leadership in curriculum development.
1980-1981: His career took him to Yarrawonga High School and then to Cobram Secondary College, where he assumed the role of year level co-ordinator.
1989: Kevin transitioned to the role of student welfare co-ordinator at Cobram Secondary College, showcasing his commitment to student support.
Innately driven by a passion for helping others, Kevin pursued further studies in social science and counselling.
1992: He earned a Graduate Diploma in Social Science from the University of New England.
1996: He completed a Graduate Diploma in Counselling at Charles Sturt University.
These qualifications prepared Kevin for leadership roles beyond the classroom.
In 2000, Kevin left teaching to become a senior school leader at South Oakleigh. By 2002, he had fully transitioned into counselling, joining Centacare as a family counsellor and training as a family dispute resolution practitioner.

Kevin’s dedication to psychology culminated in advanced academic achievements and professional contributions:
2007: He joined the McAuley Champagnat Program in Shepparton as a psychologist and presented at the 15th Biennial Australasian Human Development Conference.
2009: Kevin earned a Master of Psychology (Counselling) from Monash University and presented at two psychological conferences.
2010: He presented at the 27th International Conference of Applied Psychology, further establishing his reputation in the field.
In 2016, Kevin completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Psychology) at Monash University. That same year, he co-authored a chapter in Locked Out: Understanding and Tackling School Exclusion in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, contributing to important discussions on educational equity.
In 2014, Kevin returned to the education sector, joining Cobram Anglican Grammar School in a part-time role. Over the next decade, he combined his expertise in teaching and psychology, making a lasting impact on the school community.
2019-2021: He counselled staff at Benalla Hospital, continuing his commitment to mental health.
2021-2022: Kevin served as a volunteer peer reviewer for The Educational and Developmental Psychologist, furthering his engagement with academic discourse.
In 2024, after a long and distinguished career, Dr Kevin Quin retired from Cobram Anglican Grammar School, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, scholarship, and compassion.
Kevin’s career reflects an extraordinary blend of teaching, counselling and academic achievement. His contributions to education and psychology will continue to inspire students, colleagues and the broader community for years to come.
