Local people were horrified to see a landmark in the main street go up in flames last Wednesday.
What used to be Ryan’s garage for many years, and latterly the Shell Service Station, was burnt to the ground. Thick, billowing, black smoke hung over Bolton St homes and the Public School, encouraged by a strong southerly wind.
Emergency Services were quick to respond, the IGA store and café were evacuated, and the main street was blocked off for the afternoon and evening, with traffic diverted, while the fire was brought under control. All that is left is the rather sad-looking collapsed bones of the building. The house adjacent to the building was affected by the fire.

Don’t forget to turn up at the Uniting Church Hall on Wednesday, February 5 for the first day of the informal Jerilderie art group, which will be meeting on the first Wednesday of every month, from 10am to 2pm. Take your own paints, easels, sketch books etc. and enjoy the chance to show your artistic side (or enjoy other people’s talents, and the company).
BYO lunch; tea and coffee provided.
