Bailey Higgins, 22, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to careless driving.
Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Deryn Boote told the court the intersection of Numurkah Rd and Hawkins St, Shepparton, was filled with smoke as Higgins revved his engine and spun his back tyres on April 9.
Police officers were watching as he did the burnout.
Representing himself in court, Higgins said he was from Melbourne and had “seen some people sitting out with deckchairs and I just got carried away”.
He also said he had “never done anything like that before”.
Magistrate Julie Grainger chastised Higgins, who is a truck driver who is now living in the Goulburn Valley, for his actions, saying they were “stupid and dangerous”.
She did note however he did not have any prior convictions for criminal or traffic offences.
Ms Grainger fined Higgins $750, but did not record a conviction.
